I don’t think all of the champions between Mustard and Leon would have had rigged matches, but I have my suspicions that at least one of them did. And we all remember how just about everyone was sure that Leon was going to be a fraud (so glad he wasn’t). We know from Mustard’s league card that the chairman at the time was willing to allow him to win a rigged match (which he declined). Then we throw in the possibility of rigged matches. I can definitely see a high turnover rate for the champions due to the competitive nature of the Galar league, again making Mustard’s long reign and Leon’s undefeated streak stand out that much more. So with that assumption in mind, that leaves 22 years in between Mustard and Leon’s reign, with who knows how many champions in between them. Assuming that those wins were official wins per gym challenge season then Leon held on to his title for at minimum 10 years.
While we don’t have an exact timeframe for Leon’s reign, we do know that Leon became champion at the age of 10 and has 10-0 win streak against Raihan. We know that 50 years before the main SwSh timeline Mustard became champion and held that title for 18 years. There’s so much story potential there in determining how many champions there were and what their personalities were. I’m really curious if we’re going to see any other Galarian Champions besides Leon and Mustard once we get to the Crown Tundra DLC (I doubt it but it would be awesome if they did).
